About Peace Corps

   The Peace Corps is a government organization started in 1961 by President Kennedy. The mission of the Peace Corps is to promote world peace and friendship by:
• Helping people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women
• Helping promote better understanding of Americans on the part of peoples served
• Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
   Peace Corps Volunteers commit to serve 27 months (3 months training+2 years service). They serve in a variety of fields including: education, youth and community development, health and HIV/AIDS, agriculture, environment, buiseness and information technology. There are currently about 77 countries being served by close to 8,000 Peace Corps Volunteers.
